The Beauty of a Suppository

Suppositories-Horizontal-

Just like there are quite a few ways for food to be delivered (Postmates, UberEats, GrubHub, or DoorDash) there are quite a few different ways for medicine to be delivered into our bodies. While pills, drinks, and shots might be more common ways to consume medical products, suppositories are another form of delivery.

In case you aren’t familiar with a suppository,  let’s help you visualize: picture a tiny capsule that holds the medicine – coated in gelatin or made from cocoa butter. Once the warmth of your body melts the coat, it dissolves and the medicine is released into the body. Suppositories can go into the rectum, vagina, or urethra. The medication within them either treats the area where they are inserted, or is absorbed into the blood flow to travel elsewhere.

Suppositories only take 15-30 minutes to dissolve, and work much faster than medications taken by mouth because they enter the bloodstream directly. They also bypass the digestive system, avoiding gastric inflammation. Especially with products which are suited to address the areas down-under, they can take localized action quicker, with reduced systemic distribution. Finally, suppositories prolong drug release, making medication active and effective in the body for longer periods of time.

Some suppositories have applicators, while others do not. There is a major environmental problem with applicators. In the case of tampons, over her lifetime the average woman uses between 8,000 and 17,000. That is A LOT of applicators that end up in landfill! Therefore, the Hello Again team opted to go “digital” with our products.  To insert a suppository digitally is to use your (as the French would say) “digits” – aka your fingers. In addition to the environmental benefits of going applicator-free, women in Europe and Australia commonly chose to go digital out of hygienic concerns. Using our own digits to insert the device into our bodies allows for control and sensory feedback – ridding of blindly guessing where the plastic stick would shoot a wad of cotton or (in the case of Hello Again) the suppository.

Public skepticism of suppositories, especially those without applicators, is common. But rest assured, studies on both suppositories and the supposed necessity of applicators have revealed that this skepticism is misguided, and that people should reconsider their presumptions.

The Hello Again “vagitory” allows for a consistent and efficient delivery of the cannabinoids and botanicals.  Oh, and as a bonus, our vagitory contains cocoa butter, avocado oil and vitamin E to moisturize and soothe while apple cider vinegar maintains the natural pH balance of your vagina.
